You can get injured from falling, burning and suffocating. Radiation from exposure to Lux can also cause radiation injury.

Your slots will break for a while when you receive damage.
The more damage you take the more slots will be unavailable to you and result in your items being dropped.
You will always have at least one slot available but it is not always the same one.
