Living Sponge

Players should be careful when transporting living sponges as they are very delicate in specific ways, and avoid excavating an entire patch so they can regrow if the harvested portion is lost.
Ways sponges can die:

Living sponges die when exposed to air, which includes carrying them to the surface, item stacks falling and landing next to them, and sometimes the 'cavitation' effect from digging anything touching them (this last one is considered a bug)

How to prevent (Lode tier):

You can safely transport living sponges above water using a packed Tote Handle.

Obtaining

Can be found in natural bodies of Water at certain depths.

Usage

Living sponges can be farmed, and will grow underwater on sand. Special care may be necessary to keep colonies developing.

Living sponge colonies slow and stop growing as they approach a certain size. Split colonies up to reinvigorate growth.

A living sponge will quench any node/item in a 3x3x3 area around itself like a Wet Sponge would, but unlike Wet Sponges, a living sponge will never dry out.

Living sponges will still become Wet Sponges when exposed to air.
